As you can see the Hams still seem to cluster along the edges of the Wash and Fens which were Tidal.
This map shows the occurrance of villages containing 'HAM' a saxon term we believe originally meant
near to the sea, and in later times near to water. A number of the HAM's in the middle of the Wash are on
small islands.
